Planning Your Wedding

The selection of a wedding venue has many factors involved.  The couple should sit down and decide what type of wedding they are envisioning.  Do they want something overly romantic or simple? They should also ask themselves what type of theme they would like and set a budget for their venue expenses.  Budget can be a big factor.  Selecting a wedding location or venue is not as simple as some might think.  It takes a keen eye to determine what will be right for you and what will fit for your needs.  You need to pay close attention to the details as well.
When looking at a reception venue there are many questions that one should ask, they are:

  • First and foremost, does the venue have your date available and what is the time frame that they allow?   If the time frame is shorter than you had hoped for, sometimes the venue will allow you to purchase additional time.
  • Secondly you should find out many guests they can seat and how they typically set up the function hall.
  • Ask if they have any restrictions on items such as candles, isle runners, bringing in your own food or alcohol, glitter, confetti, bubbles, open bar etc.  Be very specific as to your vision for the day.  If you are looking to do a beach theme and they won’t allow you to use sand in your centerpiece, then this could pose a problem.
  • Ask what is included in the package.  Many venues offer a free room rental with a minimum food purchase.  Ask if table cloths, floor length or standard length are included; what colors they come in.  Ask about napkins and what colors they offer, even how they fold them.  The type of china may be important to you.  Do they offer a dance floor; what size is it and how many guests does it hold?  Do they set up the cake table, gift table, place card table, DJ tables, and head tables.  Ask the size of the dinner tables and how many guests they hold. Do they offer staging for your head table.  Is there a separate room for cocktail hour?  Do they offer room blocks.  The list goes on and on.
  • Many venues have a list of preferred vendors they use.   Inquire as to weather or not they have one and also if you can use your own vendors if you choose.

What ever your choice is for your special day, make sure that they are based on your visions and desires and not anyone else’s.  Enjoy your day.
